Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Capital Markets professional to indirectly originate $20mm - $35mm annually of qualified equipment lease transactions within the institutional markets.  This highly motivated sales professional will be responsible for working with leasing companies, bank-owned lessors, lessee advisors, brokers, large ticket vendors, MBE and WBE lessors, financial packagers and other intermediaries.   ATEL Leasing Corporation invests primarily in qualified true tax /FAS 13 operating leases with fair market value structured purchase options.  No debt, CSA’s, TRAC’s or Synthetics.  Our credit profile is “large corporate” companies ranging primarily from BB- rated companies to upper Investment Grade and p rivately held companies with minimum of $300mm in revenues with strong cash flow/ profitable operations.  Historically, the Capital Markets group has invested in the following equipment types and/or industries:  rail cars (40%), mining (20%) transportation and intermodal (10%), materials handling (15%), manufacturing (10%) as well as construction, medical, marine, energy and other hard assets.  

Requirements:

The keys to success include having the following:

  • Establish and maintain good relationships with qualified Sellers (Syndication VP’s, Lessors, Brokers, Vendors).
  • Expertise in equipment leases and residual value oriented operating/tax leases.
  • Ability to consistently source and close $ 25 MM in new business annually.
  • Great deal instincts and analytical skills in finding and reviewing lease transactions .
  • Strong computer and analytical skills (Excel, SuperTrump, Word, financial calculator) .
  • Experience in all facets of prospecting, pricing, structuring, documentation, tax and legal and closing purchased transactions and portfolios .
  • Keen understanding of the ATEL product and its “niche” within the industry.
  • A disciplined and diligent prospecting campaign including telephone solicitation, E-mail, face-to-face meetings. 
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with a proven track record in successfully purchasing equipment lease transactions on the Indirect/Institutional side.  
  • Engaging and pleasant self-starter .
  • O ptimistic outlook and approach.   
  • Excellent verbal, negotiation, written, communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated record of integrity and sense of personal and professional ethics.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the equipment finance/leasing industry.
  • Knowledge of FASB 13, cash flow, balance sheet and P&L effects of leasing are essential.
  • Bachelor’s degree required .
  • Conduct independent evaluation of all aspects of potential transactions.
  • Candidate will work in personal home office or Corporate HQ in San Francisco, CA.
