Caterpillar North American Machinery Sales Up 8% Annually



Caterpillar said in a regulatory filing that its worldwide retail sales of machinery for the three-month rolling period ended in September 2014 fell 10% from the same period in 2013. All regions were down with the exception of North America, which was up 8% in September after posting gains of 8% and 11% for August and July, respectively.

The machinery maker noted that Resource Industries, which is primarily responsible for supporting mine and quarry applications, was off 28% worldwide in September with declines of 48% in Asia/Pacific, 26% in EAME, 38% in Latin America and 3% in North America.

Retail sales of construction equipment for the three-month period ended in September were down 3% worldwide from the prior year with the only increase posted for North America at 11% following increases of 12% in August and 15% in July.
