Used Class 8 Sales Fall 3% Y/Y

Total reported volumes of used Class 8 trucks fell to to 2,239 units in January, a decline of 12% month over month and 3% year-over-year, according to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research.

“The pull back in volumes was in line with a seasonal pattern we’ve seen in four of the last six Januarys,” said Steve Tam, vice president,Commercial Vehicle Sector with ACT. “All three segments of the market – auction, retail, and wholesale – experienced slowing.”
Tam said that pricing was up 7% year over year, even though the average age rose by 1%. “Two catalysts that will keep a lid on pricing growth this year are tougher comparisons and, hopefully, some relief on the inventory front,” he added.
