WSJ: Q3 PC Shipments Lowest Since 2001
The Wall Street Journal reports that research firms IDC and Gartner are saying that PC shipments in the third quarter fell more than 8% from a year earlier, the steepest drop since at least 2001.
The Journal noted that market watchers had expected some PC buyers to put off purchases until the launch of Microsoft’s new operating system, but the severity came as a surprise.
“There’s less enthusiasm about PCs than there used to be,” said Craig Stice, an analyst at IHS iSuppli. “It doesn’t seem that people get excited about computers nearly as much as the next iPhone or iPad.”
