At CoBank, our Vice President, Tax directs all aspects of the tax function to ensure tax compliance and to minimize Federal and multi-state income, franchise, property and sales taxes within bank risk tolerances. Provides professional counsel and technical expertise in the formulation and application of tax policies. Assists management with patronage methodology and strategy development, and with coordinating the tax/patronage relationship. Provides tax leadership to the Farm Credit System (FCS), and certain industry groups or associations, as appropriate.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or relevant discipline.
Twelve (12) or more years of experience in corporate income and sales and property tax in a multi-state environment; or an appropriate combination of education and experience.
Three (3) or more years of supervisory/managerial experience.
Master’s Degree and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred.
“Big Four” or equivalent experience in corporate finance preferred.
Advanced skills in directing tax planning, compliance, and other tax-related functions.
Advanced knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code, treasury regulations, tax rulings, and general tax publications.
Advanced knowledge of multistate tax systems, consolidated tax returns and cooperative and financial institution taxation.
Advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as it relates to taxes, financial institution and leasing accounting and reporting practices, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Proven ability to manage effectively in a highly complex field within broad operational guidelines and under stringent time pressures with competing priorities.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to exercise influence cross-functionally, work collaboratively, negotiate priorities effectively and build and maintain effective relationships with all levels of executives, internal team members, customers, and other stakeholders and partners.
Demonstrated business acumen, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Knowledge of tax research and return preparation tools and applications.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
Experience in financial services, lending/leasing business, agribusiness, communications and energy companies, international, and/or cooperatives preferred.
Availability for occasional work outside normal business hours.
Some travel required.
