EVP & Chief Risk Officer

Our client, a global lessor, is seeking to hire a Chief Risk Officer who will report to the President and CEO of the company.  This is an in-office position in the Chicago, Illinois suburbs.

Position Overview:

The Chief Risk Officer is responsible for overseeing and managing the Company’s overall risk strategy across North America including Canada, ensuring high-quality exposure through appropriate credit adjudication of loan and lease applications and ongoing credit management. This role leads efforts to control credit costs, develops risk management strategies, and supervises credit-related functions for the company’s consolidated group.

The risk management strategy includes portfolio management functions, defining the company’s risk appetite, risk pricing and yields, loss forecasting, and scoring-related activities (e.g., purchasing, development, tracking, usage, and performance evaluation of scores). Additionally, the role involves interaction with the company’s international headquarters on risk management issues and ensuring alignment with global risk management practices.

Management/Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee the North America Credit Organization including Canada. (Credit Risk Planning, Underwriting, and Portfolio Management).
  • Participate as senior member of the management team in development and management of the company’s strategy.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of credit evaluation and financial analysis.
  • Understanding of portfolio management and associated analytics including reserve methodologies.
  • Decision-making under pressure with a focus on ensuring the company’s sustainability and growth.
  • Experience leading and/or playing other critical roles in driving credit portion of overall strategic business planning process, inclusive of preparing quantitative analytics, qualitative assessment, and senior management presentation.
  • Experience, knowledge and skills in; Credit Analytics, Credit Segmentation Bureau Reporting, Portfolio Management, Credit Modeling

  • Ability to communicate risk issues clearly to senior executives and board members, especially non-financial stakeholders.
  • High-level strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Risk Management Expertise Financial and Credit Risk Knowledge and overseeing risk management functions in large, complex organizations.

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of 20 years of experience in a risk management role within the industry, with over 30 years preferred. Additionally, at least 5 years of experience in a non-bank organization is required, preferably with equipment finance company ranked within the top 30 of Monitor 100.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of leadership experience, including managing teams and contributing to strategic decision-making at the senior executive level.
  • Extensive experience in managing risks across credit, market, operational, liquidity, and regulatory compliance areas.
  • Demonstrated success in managing risk framework.
