Portfolio Asset Manager

Somerset Capital Group, Ltd. has an intriguing opportunity for a Portfolio Asset Manager. This newly formed position will augment our existing team of experienced product managers and asset traders, all of which supports our lease portfolio comprising a broad range of equipment categories. This role will involve equipment research, residual setting and resale management for assets primarily in the yellow iron categories. This function will also involve enhancing our existing portfolio reporting and data mining to support our pricing function and to identify customer and asset trends.

The position consists of several key functions that fall into two broad categories:

Asset Management:

  • Asset evaluation and research for equipment categories not currently managed by in house product managers (“Non-Covered Assets”)
  • Market research regarding secondary markets and resale methodologies for potential new asset categories for our company
  • Monitoring of existing lease portfolio for upgrade and extension opportunities
  • Interact with product managers in developing new strategies for asset remarketing and strengthening risk management.
  • Interface with all facets of the company’s organization to assist with revenue enhancement and process improvement.

Portfolio Analysis:

  • Augmenting existing reporting structures and mining portfolio data to improve the company’s decision-making processes.
  • Participate in developing deeper analytical tools in leveraging company’s existing technology platforms to support pricing and product development and improve both internal and external reporting.

Essential Responsibilities/Typical Duties:

  • Equipment valuations/residual pricing for the Non-Covered Assets in support of lease originations and midterm/end of term requests. Included in this task is significant equipment research and documentation to support the positions we are taking.
  • Support of existing portfolio of Non-Covered Assets through risk assessment and mid-term lease extension and upgrade opportunity review.
  • Portfolio analysis to evaluate extension and end of term return history for various equipment categories or other lease parameters.
  • Portfolio performance reporting and analysis to evaluate areas of past success or loss with the goal of extrapolating data to apply to future lease opportunities and current asset (portfolio) risk.
  • Remarketing activities to include working with Somerset leasing sales staff, remarketing/brokerage staff and third parties to remarket off-lease assets.
  • Development of collateral curves to assist in supporting transactions with challenging credits.

Requirement/Skills:

  • A minimum of three years of asset management experience is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills are essential as is the ability to interact with internal team members and outside business partners.
  • General computer skills and knowledge of MS Office and its various components are essential
    • Proficient in Excel including Pivot Tables & Vlookup functions
  • Strong research skills such as using the Internet for the purpose of gathering information such as new products, asset classes, equipment evaluation.
  • Experience with database programs and report generation is a necessity.
  • Ability to function and transition in and out multiple systems/software platforms
