ACT Research: Used Class 8 Truck Retail Sale Price Ticked Higher in December

According to the latest State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks by ACT Research, the Class 8 average retail sale price floated higher in December, to $56,865, or 0.5% higher month over month.

“On a Y/Y basis, prices were 2% lower. Prices are expected to remain stable at or around the current level before transitioning to Y/Y growth in early 2025,” Steve Tam, vice president at ACT Research, said. “Same dealer used Class 8 retail truck sales rose to their highest monthly tally for 2024 in December. The 16% M/M increase was stronger than the expected 8% seasonal contraction indicated by history. December is typically the fifth best sales month of the year, running less than 1% below average.”
