Used Class 8 truck metrics continued to be mixed in December, according to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research.
“December unit sales rebounded from November, but were flat year-to-date relative to the same period in 2014,” said Steve Tam, ACT’s vice president of the commercial vehicle sector. “Age trends remained flat month-over-month in December, while pricing fell 1% month-over-month. Year-over-year, prices were down 6% compared to last December. Dealers are reporting demand for used trucks is slowing, which means that dealers will be reducing prices to move the used trucks.”
Average mileage of used Class 8 trucks was up slightly month-over-month in December, but remained down by 6% year-over-year. For the total year, pricing and age were flat compared to 2014, while mileage declined 8%.
The report from ACT provides data on the average selling price, miles and age based on a sample of industry data.
