Anderson to Lead Master Talk on How to Create, Build, Scale & Sell for STRIPES Leadership Program
JUL 29, 2021 - 5:30 am
Charles Anderson — co-founder and CEO at Arrow — will lead a Master Talk on How to Create, Build, Scale & Sell — Lessons Learned from the FrontLines of Entrepreneurship for STRIPES Leadership Program, the professional and personal leadership development program designed to challenge and inspire best-in-class leaders within the equipment finance industry, in partnership with Monitor.
This Master Talk will explore the myriad lessons learned from Anderson’s years in the industry and illustrate the importance of leading with transparency, clear and simple communication, and qualitative (versus quantitative) goals. Anderson believes that a leader’s highest goal should be to build and deliver on your mission.
“I believe that ‘life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it,’” Anderson said, quoting Charles Swindoll. “I’m excited for the opportunity to share my experiences on rapidly scaling, selling and getting asked to leave…The best lesson I learned from this process is that it is possible to find joy through it all.”
STRIPES Leadership Program is a 10-month, rich and unique leadership development experience. With a mixture of assessments, Master Talks are just one component of the comprehensive program tapestry including master workshops, mentor modules, breakthrough discussions and leadership development plans. Launching in September 2021, the program will cultivate a transformative journey to leadership advancement. The curriculum is designed to present opportunities for participants to expand both personally and professionally to enhance their leadership potential.
“There is no better way to learn entrepreneurship than from an entrepreneur,” Lisa Rafter, STRIPES Leadership Program CEO and Founder, said. “In Charles’ Master Talk, he will empower and educate entrepreneurs using the lens of his own trials and tribulations. Participants will learn the skills necessary to scale from an industry leader who has done it. Charles’ wisdom and experience will impact STRIPES participants whether you’re leading your own company or running a company or division for someone else.”
Originally from the Bay Area, growing up with a single parent entrepreneur mother taught Anderson the importance of creating value for others. Anderson started his first business at eight years old with his brother, Owens Brother’s Odd Jobs. From odd jobs, he moved on to door-to-door sales offering car washes for $0.25. Building on that experience, in 4th grade, Anderson sold more than 100 wrapping paper items door-to-door for his school to earn a CD player.
This passion for building and helping has carried Anderson to this day. During his undergraduate years, he attended eight different academic institutions (Biola University, Fullerton College, Cypress College, Sacramento City College, Solano Community College, Grossmont College, San Diego State University and Cal State Fullerton) but still graduated in 3.5 years. He was chasing a dream to play professional baseball but understood the importance of a degree. After a few different personal training businesses in college, Anderson started a mortgage company in 2007, right before the Great Recession.
Anderson married his college sweetheart in 2009 right before attending Stanford University to earn his MBA. After Stanford, he helped to build and sell a few businesses, most notably Currency, a point-of-sale platform for buying and selling heavy equipment.
