ATA Opens TMC National Technicians Skills Competition

American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council opened the 14th annual National Technicians Skills Competitions – TMCSuperTech on September 16, 2018.

“This year is a special one in the history of this competition,” said TMC Executive Director Robert Braswell. “We have added an entirely new class of competition for light and medium duty truck technicians, and as a result will have our largest and most challenging competition ever with 78 skill stations.”

This year, 125 technicians from around the country will compete for the title of TMCSuperTech Grand Champion alongside 32 students in the TMCFutureTech National Student Technicians Skills Competition, sponsored by the TechForce Foundation.

“Right now, there is no better time to get into this industry,” Braswell added. “It is an exciting time to become a diesel engine or truck technician. With a shortage of qualified technicians, it is our hope that by shining a spotlight on the skill and expertise of these fine men and women, more people – especially young people – will consider trucking as a career path.”

In conjunction with the competition, TMC will hold its annual Fall Meeting and look at important issues ranging from the industry’s readiness to handle complex modern electrical systems to recruiting and retaining technicians, along with a whole host of questions facing the trucking industry.

TMC is America’s premier technical society for truck equipment technology and maintenance professionals. Its diverse membership includes equipment managers, service-dealers, owner-operators, industry suppliers and manufacturers, educators, academia and others that support the trucking industry.
