According to the June 1, 2018 Baker Hughes rig count, the U.S. accounted for 1,060 active rigs, up 144 from 916 or 15.7% from a rig count on June 2, 2017.
Baker-Hughes noted that the 1,060 total was comprised of 929 horizontal rigs, 66 vertical rigs and 65 directional rigs.
Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool began weekly counts of U.S. and Canadian drilling activity.
