Barclays appointed John J. Erdmann CFO for Barclays U.S. Consumer Bank and Barclays Bank Delaware (BBDE). Erdmann will oversee the bank’s consumer financial operations in the United States, including financial reporting, planning and analysis, forecasting, expense management and financial controls.
Erdmann has more than 25 years of experience in financial services across a variety of industries, including commercial and consumer banking, mortgages and credit cards. He joined Barclays from TD Bank where he served most recently as senior vice president and head of line of business CFOs for the U.S. retail business. Prior to that, he was TD Bank’s U.S. controller.
“John’s deep banking experience across all critical financial functions, including risk governance and control, will be a tremendous asset to Barclays,” Denny Nealon, CEO of Barclays U.S. Consumer Bank, said. “His collaborative approach will be a great fit for our culture. We look forward to his contributions as we execute our strategy to grow and strengthen our portfolio and deliver additional value for all our stakeholders.”
Throughout his career, Erdmann has held various finance leadership roles that spanned PHH Corporation, Bank One Corporation, Discover Financial Services, RBC Mortgage and MBNA America.
“I’m honored to step into this role, particularly during such an exciting period of growth and opportunity for the business,” Erdmann said. “Barclays has a talented team with incredible experience and a solid strategic vision. I look forward to helping Barclays U.S. Consumer Bank expand its footprint in the United States as a leading co-branded credit card and payments partner for top brands.”
Erdmann will join Barclays U.S. Consumer Bank in April, reporting to Nealon. He will serve on the executive committees for the U.S. consumer business and its legal entity, BBDE. Erdmann will succeed Angelo Del Giudice, who is set to retire from Barclays later this year after nearly a decade of service to the bank.
