Caterpillar Found Guilty of Stealing Trade Secrets From UK-Based Supplier

The Wall Street Journal reported a federal court jury found Caterpillar guilty of stealing trade secrets from one of its suppliers after an eight-week trial in Chicago.

A jury in a U.S. District Court awarded the supplier, UK-based Miller $74 million in damages, according to the Journal.

The Journal noted the suit charged Caterpillar with taking advantage of its position as Miller’s largest customer to gain access to its trade secrets and used them to produce its own couplers rather than buying them from the firm.
