Caterpillar Reports Flat Growth in August North American Machine Sales



Caterpillar reported an 11% increase in worldwide total machine retail sales in August 2017. Sales were up 12% in July and 7% in June. All four regions registered increases in total sales, with Asia/Pacific leading the way at 44%. North America rose only slightly (1%).

Construction industries is where the most positive growth was felt, with EAME the only region to not report an increase. North America experienced 3% growth in this section and Asia/Pacific was bolstered by a 61% increase. Globally, Caterpillar had 12% growth in construction.

In resource industries, North American sales were down 9%, but a 53% boost in EAME led to a 5% increase worldwide.

While resource and construction had positive months overall, energy and transportation equipment fell for the most part. Power generation (5%), transportation (2%) as well as oil and gas (11%) all declined, while total sales for this section were down 3%.
