Caterpillar’s 28% Increase in Sales Powered by Resource Industries in Latin America

Caterpillar reported a 28% increase in worldwide machine sales for the three-month rolling period ended in April 2018. This follows increases of 26% and 33%, respectively, in the same periods ended in March and February.

Latin America had the highest sales increase (56%), driven primarily by a 179% boost in Resource Industries sales (179%). North America had a 25% increase in total machine sales, including a 51% increase in Resource Industries sales.

On the Construction side, Asia-Pacific had the highest growth rate, rising 32%. All four regions experienced increases in both Construction and Resource Industries, with worldwide sales up 23% and 57% in the two segments, respectively.

Energy Transportation sales rose 14% primarily thanks to a 43% increase in Oil & Gas sales. Transportation sales fellow 25%, marking its second reported decline, as the March report indicated the segment was down 11%. Power Generation (3%) and Industrial (unchanged) had much less fluctuation.
