RB Global Acquires J.M. Wood Auction Co., Expanding U.S. Presence

RB Global, Inc. has reached an agreement to acquire J.M. Wood Auction Co., strengthening its foothold in Alabama and surrounding states. The acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of 2025, pending regulatory approvals.

J.M. Wood, a family-run auction company specializing in commercial construction and transportation assets, has operated out of Montgomery, Alabama, since its founding in 1973. The company is known for its relationships with municipal customers and its reputation for personalized service.

RB Global CEO Jim Kessler said the acquisition will enhance the company’s regional presence and integrate J.M. Wood’s experienced sales team. “Their strong customer relationships and industry expertise will complement our existing network,” Kessler said in a statement.

J.M. Wood President Bryant Wood emphasized the alignment between the two companies. “Ritchie Bros. has deep roots in the equipment industry and operates with the same principles we’ve upheld—doing what we say,” Wood said. “We are honored to continue our legacy as part of the RB Global family.”

J.M. Wood will maintain its name and headquarters in Montgomery and continue operating independently for the foreseeable future.

RB Global, a major auction and transaction services provider, operates through multiple brands, including Ritchie Bros., IAA, Rouse Services, SmartEquip, and VeriTread. The company specializes in the sale of commercial assets across industries such as construction, transportation, and agriculture.
