Sandhills Global’s November 2024 Construction Report showed a general decrease in inventory levels, asking values and auction values for medium- and heavy-duty construction equipment.
U.S. Used Medium-Duty Construction Equipment
- Inventory levels in this market are trending steady. In November, inventory decreased by 1.14% M/M but was 19.2% higher than last year. The wheel skid steer category showed the largest M/M inventory decrease at 3.33%, and showed the largest Y/Y inventory increase at 29.17%.
- Asking values have been trending downward for several months. In November, asking values were down 1.83% M/M and 5.99% Y/Y. The loader backhoe category posted the largest M/M asking value decrease at 3.48%, while the wheel skid steer category showed the largest Y/Y asking value decrease at 8.62%.
- Auction values have also been trending downward. In November, auction values decreased by 0.88% M/M and 7.7% Y/Y. The loader backhoe category showed the largest M/M auction value decrease at 3.35%, while the wheel skid steer category posted the largest Y/Y auction value decrease at 12.38%.
U.S. Used Heavy-Duty Construction Equipment
- Inventory levels in the U.S. heavy-duty construction equipment market were down 1.08% M/M in November but are still up 16.78% Y/Y. The wheel loader category posted the largest M/M inventory decrease at 2.07%, while also exhibiting the largest Y/Y inventory increase at 32.03%.
- Asking values in this market decreased by 1.42% M/M and were down 6.48% Y/Y. The crawler dozer category showed the steepest M/M asking value decrease at 1.98%, while the crawler excavator category posted a Y/Y asking value drop at 7.63%.
- Auction values in the U.S. heavy-duty construction equipment market were essentially flat, increasing by 0.02% M/M, but were down 9.38% Y/Y. The crawler excavator category showed the largest M/M auction value increase at 2.7%, while the wheel loader category posted the largest Y/Y auction value decrease at 10.5%.
