SMBC Hires French and Streit as Managing Directors to Drive Technology Banking Expansion



SMBC, a member of SMBC Group, appointed Jeff French and Jake Streit as managing directors of technology sector coverage for its Corporate and Investment Banking Coverage business. Both French and Streit will be based in San Francisco.

“Jeff and Jake bring a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives to complement our existing team, and we are excited to have them join our firm,” Richard Eisenberg, executive officer and deputy head of SMBC Americas Division, said. “The expansion of our technology banking business is a key strategic priority for SMBC and the additions of Jeff and Jake will help further accelerate our growth across this sector.”

French, who will serve as managing director and co-head of the Technology Sector, brings more than 25 years of experience delivering complex financial products to corporate technology customers and financial sponsors.  Prior to joining SMBC, French spent eight years as head of Large Corporate Technology Banking at HSBC. He was a founding member of technology banking practices at ABN AMRO, Citibank and GE Capital.

Streit joins as managing director for the Technology Sector. He is an accomplished corporate and investment banker with 16 years of experience across commercial lending and client coverage/relationship management.

Most recently, Streit served as managing director and head of California and U.S. Technology Originations for Greensill Capital. Prior to that role, he spent eight years with HSBC, most recently as head of West Coast Technology Banking, and team lead for the Mid-Atlantic region.
