Sumitomo Mitsui Hires Berg to Launch Specialty Vehicle Business



Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing (SMFL) a member of SMBC Group, hired Gregory Berg as director of its transportation finance group. Berg will report to Mitsunori Owada, head of the vendor finance group for SMFL.

Berg will be responsible of launching the specialty vehicle business for SMFL to strengthen its footprint in the transportation market. Based in Texas, Berg has spent more than 30 years in the equipment finance industry. Previously, he held the key role of launching and developing a specialty vehicle business at Midland Equipment Finance, Sun Trust Equipment Finance, Wells Fargo and Key Equipment Finance. SMFL will expand their growth in motorcoach, school bus, shuttles, tow truck, ambulance, EV bus and other specialty segment utilizing Berg’s experience and expertise.

His equipment finance experience and market knowledge, along with his firm industry network will bring SMFL strong presence to [the] United States,” Owada said. “Long term commitment to serve and support broad finance needs in the transportation market is our most important mission.
