Tompkins Community Bank Names Kunkel President of Pennsylvania Market

Tompkins Community Bank promoted Ginger Kunkel to president of the bank’s Pennsylvania market. Previously, Kunkel served as COO. Kunkel, who has 32 years of experience, is the first woman to lead the bank in this market. In her new role, she is responsible for the bank’s growth, operations and administration throughout its Pennsylvania market as well as fostering relationships with clients of Tompkins’ insurance and wealth affiliates.

Kunkel, most recently of Wyomissing, PA, joined Tompkins in December 2021 in anticipation of becoming the bank’s market leader following the recent retirement of former president Scott Gruber. Kunkel came to Tompkins from Riverview Bank and Riverview Financial Corporation, where she was senior executive vice president and COO and oversaw all revenue-producing lines of business, including commercial, retail, trust and wealth management.  Prior to Riverview, she worked in Berks and Lehigh counties in Pennsylvania as a senior commercial relationship manager for Susquehanna Bank with expertise in commercial and industrial lending.

“Ginger has a proven record of excellence as a community banker and leader,” Stephen Romaine, president and CEO of Tompkins Financial Corporation, said. “With her collaborative style, focus on building relationships and knowledge of financial services, she is the ideal person to build on our success in Pennsylvania.”

Kunkel attended the PA Bankers Association Advanced Commercial Lending School and Advanced School of Banking. She was recently recognized on PA Business Central’s 2021 list of Women Making a Difference and was included on the Lehigh Valley Business Journal’s Power 100 List for 2022.  She is a past recipient of the Woman of Distinction Award from Soroptimist International.
