Transervice Logistics Names Nierenberg CEO, Promotes Fontana to COO and EVP

Transervice Logistics, a provider of fleet maintenance and transportation solutions, made changes to its executive leadership team following the retirements of company president Dennis Schneider and executive vice president Joseph Evangelist.

Transervice Logistics named Gregg Nierenberg CEO and president. Nierenberg has held leadership roles for multiple Fortune 500 companies. Nierenberg was most recently senior vice president of fleet services with Avis Budget Group, overseeing a fleet of more than 400,000 cars and commercial trucks across more than 100 maintenance facilities.

Prior to Avis Budget Group, Nierenberg served as part of Hertz Global Holdings’ senior management team, with roles as vice president of operations and vice president of global fleet for Hertz Equipment Rental (HERC Equipment Rental). Prior to HERC, Nierenberg spent 14 years in various roles at Ryder System, with his last responsibility at Ryder leading the asset management and used vehicle sales functions. Nierenberg began his career as a certified public accountant with Arthur Anderson.

“I am honored to join the Transervice team as CEO and build on the company’s 50+ years of proven success supporting our customers and employees,” Nierenberg said. “I want to thank both Dennis Schneider and Joseph Evangelist for their dedication and leadership at Transervice and recognize Dennis’ achievements during his nearly 50-year career here. I look forward to continuing to grow the company while maintaining the strong culture that has been developed over the last half century.”

In addition to Nierenberg’s appointment, Transervice Logistics promoted Gino Fontana, CTP, to chief operations officer and executive vice president. Formerly vice president of operations for Transervice Logistics’ Berkeley division and Puerto Rico operations and, before that, director of business development of the Midwest, Fontana has more than 25 years of progressive leadership, operations and sales responsibilities in fleet leasing and trucking.

Prior to his 10 years of service with Transervice Logistics, he began his career in transportation with Wheels Inc., where he was senior director of purchasing operations, truck engineering, vendor management and manufacturer relations.

Schneider joined Transervice Lease in 1972 as an entry level employee after serving three years as a teacher in the NYC Board of Education. He eventually acquired the company in 1985 in the role of executive vice president with partner Ed Flannigan. He has served as president of Transervice Logistics since 2011 and has been engaged with the company’s contract maintenance, leasing and dedicated contract carriage customers and in negotiating collective bargaining agreements with the various unions working at Transervice Logistics’ locations across North America.

Evangelist joined Transervice Logistics in 2007 as executive vice president with responsibility for sales, operations, staff and account management. A transportation executive with domestic and international experience, he was formerly president of LLT International and served as president and CEO of Lend Lease Trucks as well as vice president and general manager of the trucks division of The Hertz Corporation.
