Truist Securities Makes Leadership Appointments in Tech, ESG, Private Institutional Capital

Truist Securities hired Stellar Kim Tucker as group head of technology investment banking and Julie Bennett Bunuan as group head of ESG advisory and intra-industries coverage. The company also promoted Ileana Chu to group head of private institutional capital.

“These leadership appointments reflect our commitment to ensuring our teams are best positioned to deliver innovative solutions and expertise to help clients across these high-growth industries achieve their strategic objectives,” Michael Carter, head of investment and corporate banking at Truist Securities, said. “Stellar, Julie and Ileana are highly experienced, purpose-driven leaders with strong track records managing teams and providing clients customized advice and a trusted advisory approach that positions them for success.”

Tucker will oversee teams that serve the cloud technology, financial technology, software and internet, martech and IT services industries. She will also serve as head of Truist Securities’ Miami office.

Tucker has more than 25 years of experience in investment banking, financial services and corporate development, and most recently served as executive vice president and head of corporate development and strategic initiatives at HCL Technologies. Her key areas of focus included next generation technologies in digital transformation, analytics, cloud technology, IT services and horizontal and vertical software.

Prior to HCL, Tucker led global businesses at Goldman Sachs, UBS Securities and Foros Group, a boutique M&A advisory firm. Tucker also was the CFO at a hedge fund related to Tiger Management.

Bennett Bunuan joined Truist Securities in January to lead ESG-focused advisory across industry sectors to support clients navigating the strategic and financing challenges in the transition to a low-carbon economy while also supporting companies enabling a more sustainable economy.

Bennett Bunuan has more than 20 years of corporate finance, capital structure, financial risk management and ESG advisory and execution experience. Prior to joining Truist Securities, she led the ESG and strategic solutions group for the Americas at HSBC, advising domestic and global corporates, financial institutions and investors to develop solutions supporting the integration of sustainability into business and financial strategy. Previously, she held positions at Barclays and Lehman Brothers.

A 25-year investment banking professional, Chu joined Truist Securities in 2014. In her new role, she will be responsible for financial sponsors and alternative capital investors, including growth equity, venture capital, credit funds and infrastructure funds.

Since 2018, Chu has served as head of the structured products group for Truist Securities. Previously, she was a managing director in investment grade debt capital markets (DCM) originations and served as the head of debt private placements.

Prior to joining Truist, Chu was head of the esoteric/structured solutions syndicate at Deutsche Bank Securities and worked in ABS syndicate/trading at Banc of America Securities.
