Unemployment Rate Drops to 8.1%; Trucking Adds 1,400 Jobs



Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 96,000 in August, and the unemployment rate dropped to 8.1%, from 8.3% last month, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said. Trucking added 1,400 jobs, and the transportation sector, of which trucking is a subset, rose by 5,700, reported Transport Topics.

Manufacturing employment fell by the most in two years, with factory payrolls declining by 15,000, Transport Topics reported.
