Inventory levels for used heavy- and medium-duty construction equipment in the United States continued to decline in April, according to the latest market data from Sandhills Global.

In the heavy-duty segment—covering crawler excavators, dozers, and wheel loaders—inventory fell 0.84% month-over-month and 1.44% year over year. Crawler excavators saw the largest drop, with inventories down 1.91% month over month and 5.35% year over year. Wheel loaders were the only category to post an inventory gain, up 9.18% year over year.

Asking values for heavy-duty equipment remained stable overall, decreasing 0.24% month over month and 3.28% year over year. Dozers recorded the largest monthly asking price drop at 1.24%, while wheel loaders saw the steepest annual decline at 4.25%. Auction values followed a similar trend, falling 0.58% month over month and 2.31% year over year.

Use Heavy Duty

In the medium-duty market—including skid steers, loader backhoes, and mini excavators—inventories dropped 2.08% month over month but rose slightly by 0.87% year over year. Mini excavators posted the largest month over month decline at 6.1% and the steepest year over year drop at 9.87%.

Asking prices for medium-duty equipment edged up 0.45% month over month but were down 3.16% year over year. Wheel skid steers saw the highest monthly price increase at 1.48%, while track skid steers led in annual declines at 6.03%. Auction values increased 0.24% month over month but declined 1.51% year over year.

Used Medium Duty

Sandhills’ report indicates a market characterized by constrained supply and generally flat pricing, with fluctuations varying by equipment type and sales channel.
