Brett Rondeau, executive vice president of sales and syndication at Universal Finance, has helped steer the company through a period of rapid expansion — growth he credits not just to strategy, but to people.

“We have seen tremendous growth over the past four years, and this would not be possible without the amazing people within our company and the partnerships we have developed along the way,” Rondeau says. “You are only as good as the people you surround yourself with.”

Rondeau joined Universal Finance to build a syndication desk. That role expanded to include establishing a broker desk and overseeing the direct sales team, responsibilities he still manages today. His approach emphasizes both performance and culture: hard work, integrity, accountability and a willingness to collaborate across diverse perspectives.

The last few years have tested those values. “Since 2020, our industry has faced unexpected challenges — COVID-19, inflation, rising rates,” he says. “Preparing for the unforeseen has become one of the biggest challenges.”

But Rondeau sees adversity as a proving ground. He believes adaptability and a forward-thinking mindset will separate future leaders in the equipment finance industry. This extends to technology as well. “AI and innovation are coming fast,” he says. “But we can’t lose sight of what works. Success will come from finding the right synergy between technology and human expertise.”

To ensure long-term talent pipelines, Rondeau advocates for earlier outreach and broader exposure. “Many young professionals don’t even know this industry exists,” he says. “We need to give them the chance to experience different parts of the business before locking them into a narrow role.”

His vision is clear: a future built not just on profit, but on people who are prepared to lead through change.

“The greatest opportunity lies in the ability to embrace discomfort and develop adaptability. Those who refine their skills to be flexible and forward-thinking will be best positioned for success.”
