Wingspire Equipment Finance is seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our team. This individual will play a key role in supporting the company’s growth by independently underwriting new equipment finance transactions and delivering thoughtful, well-supported credit recommendations.

This role requires a high degree of autonomy, sound judgment, and accountability. Working closely with the Chief Credit Officer and partnering with originations and other internal stakeholders, the Underwriter will evaluate opportunities through detailed financial and collateral analysis, identify key risks, and help structure transactions that align with the company’s credit standards and return objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Independently analyze and underwrite new equipment finance transactions through detailed financial analysis, due diligence, collateral review, and evaluation of payment and operating history, lease documentation, and other relevant materials.
  • Assess transaction risks and recommend appropriate structure, risk mitigation strategies, and conditions precedent to closing or funding.
  • Prepare clear, comprehensive Credit Approval Memos (CAMs) and supporting materials for investment committee review and approval.
  • Lead credit calls with clients, sponsors, and other transaction stakeholders, asking thoughtful questions, gathering relevant information, and assessing key credit considerations.
  • Serve as a trusted credit partner to the sales and originations team by evaluating opportunities and helping ensure transactions meet underwriting standards, pricing requirements, target returns, and structural guidelines.
  • Exercise independent judgment in identifying credit strengths, risks, and mitigants, and provide well-reasoned recommendations supported by thorough analysis.
  • Present transaction opportunities, key risks, and recommendations clearly and effectively to internal stakeholders, including the investment committee.
  • Work collaboratively with legal, operations, and other internal teams to support efficient execution and closing of approved transactions in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain strong ownership of assigned transactions from initial review through approval and closing, ensuring consistency, responsiveness, and attention to detail throughout the process.
  • Assist with credit-related reporting, analysis, and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial credit experience in equipment finance, commercial lending, or a related field, including experience as a credit analyst, underwriter, special assets manager, or similar role. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Strong financial analysis and credit underwriting skills, with the ability to identify key risks, trends, and insights from complex financial information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage transactions with limited oversight, and make sound credit decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to lead discussions with clients and transaction counterparties and present credit findings and recommendations effectively to senior management and the investment committee.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new industries, transaction structures, and collateral types.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach with the ability to work effectively across functions.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Moody’s Risk Analyst, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office applications.

The salary range for this Underwriter position is: $180k-$230k
