THE POSITION

The Credit Manager is responsible for overseeing the Credit Underwriting function while actively participating in the evaluation and approval of equipment finance, real estate and structured finance transactions.  The role blends management oversight, hands-on deal structuring, and team leadership to ensure the company maintains strong portfolio quality while supporting business growth. The Credit Manager works closely with the Sales, Intake and Funding teams to ensure the originations align with the company’s credit standards and defined risk appetite.  As a senior credit authority, this role includes reviewing complex deals, creating and presenting credit memos to Credit Committee, developing junior underwriters, and providing final sign-off of loan packages prior to funding.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Underwrite equipment finance and complex real estate or structured finance transactions, including evaluation of applicants’ credit history, financials, cash flow, industry risk, collateral, and pricing/structure
  • Deliver excellent customer service and ensure Credit department achieves established service level agreements (SLAs) to maintain good standing relationships with borrowers, brokers, and vendors
  • Issue proposals for the Heavy Equipment Financing Program and coordinate the return of the proposal and commitment deposit with the corresponding parties; underwrite and prepare Structured Financing and Real Estate Financing opportunities for Credit Committee review.
  • Make manager level decisions on matters concerning the team’s daily operations including: schedules, queue management, review of exceptions and escalated applications, delivery of feedback to ensure underwriting quality aligns with defined risk and return guidelines, and guidance to resolve issues in the originations process
  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing team to showcase programs, on-board new referral partners, and capture new business
  • Monitor portfolio trends and credit performance, identify emerging risks, and develop, communicate & execute documented action plans to ensure originations achieve targeted results across all KPIs
  • Participate in and lead cross-functional initiatives and projects aimed at improving credit processes, underwriting efficiency, risk management practices, and overall operational effectiveness, collaborating with teams across sales, operations, funding, and finance
  • Support Collections and Asset Management functions to assist with problem accounts and maximize portfolio performance
  • Create and regularly update process & procedure manuals, letters of instruction, job aids and other helpful instructional guides
  • Train, develop, and supervise credit staff

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, and highly organized
  • Highly driven and self-motivated leader; prior experience leading and motivating a successful team
  • Proven track record of quality decision making as evidenced by prior experience building a profitable portfolio
  • Strong knowledge of Asset-Based Lending with an emphasis on equipment and real estate valuations, useful life of equipment, current market trends, and opportunity costs
  • Ability to quickly read and easily interpret credit reports, financial statements, bank statements, tax returns, invoices, collateral spec sheets, real estate appraisals, mortgage loan documents
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and Google Suite (Sheets, Slides and Docs); and prior experience using loan origination system (LOS) and customer relationship management (CRM) software; prior experience using Salesforce in preferred
  • Outstanding customer service skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to relay direction from senior management to junior staff
  • Ability to type a minimum of 50 WPM.
  • Exhibit and maintain a high degree of professionalism at all times, including in handling sensitive and confidential information as well as in conducting difficult conversations with referral partners, customers and Maxim team members

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years finance industry experience, especially in the Heavy Equipment and Real Estate industries
  • Minimum 4 years underwriting experience in the Heavy Equipment and Real Estate industries
  • Minimum 2 years experience directly managing junior staff members
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Undergraduate degree in business management, finance, economics, mathematics or statistics is preferred
  • Salary is negotiable depending on qualifications
