by Monitor Staff Nov/Dec 2021

Carolyn Amberg,
Director, AMS Leasing & Financing,
HP

Carolyn Amberg is a finance leader with more than 25 years of industry experience supporting captive and vendor financing programs. She was first exposed to leasing and financing while working as a national account manager at a channel partner. She immediately recognized the power of stretching a budget while creating a sticky customer relationship.

Amberg has held positions at GE Capital IT Solutions, HP Financial Services and Cisco Systems Capital. She started her journey in the industry as a contract administrator, but her innate curiosity to understand the end-to-end business led her to a variety of roles across many functions, including corporate development, sales, asset management and operations leadership positions. Her deep knowledge has propelled her to become an effective leader with the ability to be strategic while understanding intricacies to influence the most complex customer solutions.

VISION FOR THE FUTURE:

“Equipment financing is essential for the economy. We must be agile, embrace technology advancements and become more digital to capture market shifts. Lines between consumer and commercial are blending; customers and partners expect flexibility and velocity in engagement models. Those who are forward thinking and transform fastest will flourish. Attracting young, diverse talent with fresh perspectives is imperative.”

Amberg joined HP in December 2018 as the Americas director of leasing and financing. She drives the leasing and financing strategy, program execution, performance and go-to-market strategy in support of HP’s digital transformation and portfolio growth.

“Carolyn is a dynamic leader whose depth of knowledge can only be described as vast,” Deb Baker, head of Worldwide Leasing and Financing at HP, says. “She considers adjacencies to solve complex customer and channel partner opportunities. She is deeply committed to promoting what is best for the customer while balancing risk and reward. She distills the complex for the layperson with an approachable style and willingness to spend time to mentor and coach those around her to improve their knowledge and understanding of this complex industry.”

“HP continues to accelerate the shift from a transactional to contractual motion with a focus on outcome-based sales. Payment solutions underpin that approach. Carolyn’s expertise supports key initiatives to help us accelerate contractual selling and double down on services and solutions.” Luciana Broggi, head of global services and solutions at HP, says.

Amberg believes the equipment finance industry is at a pivotal point to impact change while catching the shift to digitization and subscription models. Her goal is to influence the industry to challenge legacy ways of doing things, promote scalable technology enhancements and take on new calculated risk models. She credits her success to women in the industry who graciously taught an early career “shy girl” the ropes, indulged her curiosity and inspired her to lean in.
