Nancy A. Geary, CPA, CLFP, began her career at ECS Financial Services as a staff accountant before moving up the ranks to shareholder in fewer than seven years. In her 36-year tenure at ECS, Geary has played an instrumental role in helping expand the practice to one predominantly serving the leasing industry, offering expertise in lease accounting, portfolio servicing and tax compliance. Over the years, Geary’s efforts at ECS have focused, in large part, on recruiting, training and managing staff, building and managing client relationships, and reinforcing high quality work standards within the firm.
VISION FOR THE FUTURE:
Geary’s hope for the future, which is especially important during this pandemic, is that the industry can continue to recruit, train and motivate the next generation of professionals, developing new ways to personalize communication as conventional practices become less feasible.
Giving back is second nature to Geary. She has been active in leasing industry associations, holding various board positions, most notably participating on the initial board of the NEFA after the merger of the UAEL and the EAEL, heading up the selection committee for the NEFA’s first full-time managing director, and participating in several stages of the development and/or improvement of the CLFP Foundation’s exam, manual and training program. Geary has written articles for multiple industry publications, participated as an instructor for the CLFP Foundation’s lease academy and spoken at association functions on a number of lease accounting topics. She enjoys mentoring staff and watching them grow in knowledge, ability and confidence, and she is gratified that her efforts have, in some small way, contributed to their ultimate success.
“Nancy is an invaluable partner to ECS and the leasing industry because of her wealth of knowledge regarding business, leasing transactions and staff management,” Anne Dalgaard, CPA, CLFP, senior controller of Dynamic Rentals and former principal at ECS, says. “Her initiative for excellence, work ethic and passion has led her to a successful career and supported many successful clients and staff that have had the pleasure of working beside her. I was fortunate to have her as a mentor in the beginning of my career to teach me everything she knew about lease accounting and motivate me to go beyond what I would have been able to achieve individually.”
