THE POSITION

The Credit Analyst is an important member of the Maxim Originations team and owns P&L accountability for their originated portfolio.  The Credit Analyst underwrites commercial equipment finance and real estate transactions.  This role evaluates business and guarantor credit risk, cash flow/financial risk, industry risk factors, and collateral risk.  The Credit Analyst operates within portfolio guidelines to decision credit applications and to establish pricing and structures that achieve company objectives while supporting referral partners’ retail activity.  This role works closely with Sales and Funding to ensure consistency in credit quality and policy adherence and to capture new business.  The role also works closely with Collections and Asset Management to support portfolio management, particularly for accounts that default early in the life of the loan.  This position requires a developing understanding of commercial lending principles, independent judgment within defined authority levels, and the ability to balance analytical rigor with outstanding customer service and transaction efficiency.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Underwrite small to mid-size equipment finance transactions by evaluating credit, cashflow/financial, collateral and industry/business segment risk
  • Price and structure approvals according to portfolio guidelines
  • Provide excellent customer service to brokers, dealers/vendors and borrowers to build and maintain positive relationships, to help close deals and to capture business
  • Track leads and opportunities through Salesforce CRM and LOS systems
  • Coordinate with Funding staff to gather all information required for funding and to assist in the review of stipulated items and conditions to complete required verifications
  • Participate in ad hoc projects including market and program analysis, intra-departmental initiatives, and account problem solving
  • Regularly reference and use process manuals, letters of instruction and other tools to ensure consistent and compliant underwriting processes
  • Other duties as required

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent decision making using a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and organization
  • Strong work ethic and highly self-motivated
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Powerpoint and Word) as well as Google suite (Google sheets, Google docs and Google slides)
  • Prior experience using CRM and LOS enterprise software is preferred
  • Working knowledge of asset-based lending with an emphasis on equipment and real estate valuations, useful life of equipment, current market trends, and opportunity costs
  • Ability to type a minimum of 50 WPM
  • Exhibit a high degree of professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information

 

Experience and Education:

  • Minimum 3 years working in financial services, preferred experience in the Heavy Equipment and Real Estate industries
  • Minimum 2 years of prior commercial underwriting experience, preferred experience in the Heavy Equipment and Real Estate industries
  • Undergraduate degree in business, economics, finance, accounting, mathematics, statistics or similar quantitative professional orientation is preferred, or equivalent professional experience
