Tina Stember’s career is a testament to adaptability, perseverance and the power of genuine leadership. As Vice President of Business Operations at instaCOVER, she has spent nearly two decades helping transform the company into a model of operational excellence and customer-focused innovation within the equipment finance and insurance space. Her path, however, was anything but traditional — a journey defined by reinvention, resilience and a deep commitment to people.

Stember began her career in banking, where she spent 10 years mastering the fundamentals of finance and customer service. Seeking new challenges, she transitioned into the telecommunications industry in Seattle, starting as a Customer Service Representative and eventually advancing to Senior Operations Manager. Her ability to lead through change and optimize systems became a hallmark of her early success. But after facing personal and health challenges, she made the difficult decision to step away from her career to focus on family and self-care. This move would ultimately lead to one of the most fulfilling chapters of her professional life.

In 2008, Stember met instaCOVER founder Dan Hauff, and she joined the startup to help establish operational processes and procedures. What began as a temporary engagement quickly evolved into a 17-year leadership journey. Stember became a cornerstone of instaCOVER’s evolution — partnering with teams across technology, customer service and business development to refine internal systems, enhance the customer experience and drive innovation at every level. Her vision helped shape instaCOVER’s unique culture — one that blends agility, collaboration and forward-thinking design to deliver creative financing solutions in real time.

As the company grew, Stember’s role expanded beyond operations. She became a bridge between departments, translating client needs and industry shifts into actionable strategy and product development. Her steady leadership, grounded in empathy and problem-solving, continues to guide instaCOVER through growth and transformation while keeping its values firmly intact.

“Tina is one of the most hardworking and loyal teammates I’ve ever had the privilege to work with,” says Colleen Shelby, CEO, instaCOVER. “She supports every facet of our business and truly cares about both her colleagues and our clients. The operations of instaCOVER would not run as smoothly — if at all — without her steady leadership and commitment. Beyond that, Tina has an incredible ability to anticipate customer needs and bring new products to life. She can take a vision and implement it into a beautifully executed solution that benefits our company and our clients alike. Her unique blend of dedication, creativity and care makes her an invaluable leader in our industry.”

Beyond her corporate responsibilities, Stember is passionate about mentoring. Through the Equipment Leasing & Finance Association (ELFA), she supports professionals seeking clarity and confidence in their careers, helping them navigate challenges with compassion and insight. Her mentorship philosophy mirrors her leadership approach — rooted in listening, understanding and empowering others to find their own voice and path forward.

Stember’s journey demonstrates that success in the equipment finance industry isn’t always about following a straight line. It’s about evolving with intention, building strong relationships and remaining open to where your skills can create the most impact. Under her guidance, instaCOVER continues to thrive as an example of what happens when innovation and humanity intersect.

“Great leadership begins with listening — not merely to respond, but to understand. It shows genuine respect, builds deep trust and inspires lasting loyalty. Listen to your customers, your teammates and your own inner voice; each one can guide you to unexpected opportunities.”
