Michael Kianmahd, CEO of Maxim Commercial Capital, grew up in an entrepreneurial family. After starting his career at J.P. Morgan in institutional real estate lending, where he developed a rigorous foundation in risk management and capital allocation, he joined his father at Maxim Commercial Capital for the opportunity to help grow a business directly. During his 14 years at Maxim, his perspective about equipment finance has evolved from viewing it as a credit business to recognizing it encapsulates a dynamic intersection of people, technology and complex problem-solving.

Over the past 18 months, Kianmahd has been guiding Maxim through a transformation by harnessing the expertise of the company’s dedicated team members. They convened for a multi-day strategy meeting to examine the company’s vision, mission, values, objectives and challenges, then embarked on operational initiatives centered around integrating digital efficiency with customer engagement. By leveraging technology to reduce friction and improve response times, his team has successfully
transitioned from reactive paperwork processing to a proactive communication model. This shift has streamlined the customer experience and significantly strengthened the company’s risk management protocols through consistency and operational clarity.

As a leader, Kianmahd emphasizes the importance of independent thinking and sound judgment. He believes these skills are learned experientially, and advocates mentorship and informal apprenticeship whereby younger professionals learn from strong leaders and engage directly in the decision-making process.
