The Regions Foundation announced Friday it will provide $60,000 in disaster-recovery grants to support communities in Missouri and Indiana impacted by the tornado and severe storms that struck May 16.
The funding will assist individuals and small businesses as they recover from the damage caused by the deadly storm system, which hit the St. Louis area before moving east into parts of Indiana.
The grants will be distributed as follows:
- $25,000 to the United Way of Greater St. Louis to support food, shelter and cleanup initiatives in affected neighborhoods.
- $25,000 to the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis to assist recovery efforts for families and small businesses, particularly in low- and moderate-income areas.
- $10,000 to the American Red Cross for operations in Indiana’s Monroe and Greene counties, including damage assessment, emotional support services and financial aid.
“As people across the Midwest have begun to pick up their lives following these devastating storms, these three organizations have been alongside them every step of the way,” said Marta Mendes-Miguel Self, executive director of the Regions Foundation.
Scott Hartwig, St. Louis market executive for Regions Bank, said the grants reflect the community’s resilience and unity in the face of hardship.
“These were hard-hit areas where we live and work,” Hartwig said. “The support from the Regions Foundation will aid recovery well into the future.”
