U.S. trailer net order intake dropped to just under 9,400 units in April, down more than 57% from March and 32% below already subdued levels from April 2024, according to ACT Research’s latest State of the Industry: U.S. Trailers report.
“April’s net order intake puts the year-to-date order tally at 70,500 units, 13% higher than the 62,200 bookings recorded during the same period in 2024,” said Jennifer McNealy, director of CV market research and publications at ACT Research. “While that may seem like good news, it’s important to note that the seasonally stronger ordering period has ended. We expect weaker intake through mid-third quarter.”
Trailer production in April exceeded orders by more than 8,200 units, contributing to an 8% sequential drop in industry backlogs. Meanwhile, order cancellations rose to 2.3% of the backlog—the highest rate since stability seen in December and January.
