Used agricultural equipment markets showed mixed performance in April, with inventory and values fluctuating across categories, according to Sandhills Global’s latest market report.

Inventory for used tractors 100 horsepower and greater dipped 2.3% month over month but rose 1.73% compared to the same time last year. Tractors in the 100- to 174-horsepower range posted the largest monthly drop at 2.51%, while the 300-plus horsepower segment saw a 7.1% year-over-year increase.

Asking prices for this category rose slightly—up 0.73% month over month—but fell 4.86% from the previous year. The most significant decline in asking values came from the 175- to 299-horsepower group, down 4.68% year over year. Auction values also decreased 4.52% annually, despite a slight 0.02% monthly decline. The 175- to 299-HP group again led the drop with a 5.53% annual decline.

Tractor

Used combine inventories were nearly flat, rising just 0.53% month over month but down 5.43% year over year. Asking and auction values both increased slightly, continuing an upward trend, with auction prices rising 2.21% from last year. The EVI spread—a measure of the difference between asking and auction values—fell to 44%, its fourth consecutive monthly decline.
Combines

The used sprayer market continued to weaken. Inventory dropped 3.69% month over month and 1.81% year over year. Asking and auction values both fell in April, down 1.88% and 3.71% respectively. Still, auction values remain in a longer-term upward trend. The EVI spread increased to 43%.

Sprayers

Used planter inventories declined by 4.22% from March and 13.15% year over year. Asking values were stable, while auction values climbed 10.51% annually. The EVI spread dropped to 51%, still below its 2015 peak.

Planters

Compact and utility tractors saw some of the sharpest declines in inventory, continuing a six-month slide. Inventory for these machines fell 4.09% month over month and 23.71% year over year. The less-than-40-horsepower category posted the steepest drop, with a 26.69% annual decline. Asking and auction values both trended downward.
