Sandhills Global: Asking and Auction Values Rise for Trucks, While Trailer Prices Continue Mixed Trends

Sandhills Global’s July 2025 report highlights rising asking and auction values for heavy-duty and medium-duty trucks, despite mixed inventory shifts.

Sandhills Global released its July 2025 truck and trailer market reports.

U.S. Heavy-Duty Trucks

  • Inventory levels in this market increased by 1.88% M/M in July but fell 17.17% Y/Y and are trending sideways. Used day cab trucks showed the largest M/M inventory increase at 5.38%, while used sleeper trucks had the largest Y/Y decrease at 25.04%.
  • Asking values increased by 3.57% M/M and 0.08% Y/Y in July and are trending up. Used sleeper trucks posted the largest M/M asking value increase at 4.47%, while used day cab trucks had the largest Y/Y asking value decrease at 6.27%.
  • Auction values are also trending up, with increases of 5.99% M/M and 1.31% Y/Y in July. The used sleeper truck category posted the largest auction value changes, up 6.56% M/M and 7.45% Y/Y.

U.S. Used Semi-Trailers

  • S. used semi-trailer inventory levels increased by 2.96% M/M and decreased by 13.51% Y/Y in July, maintaining a five-month-long sideways trend. The used reefer trailer category showed the largest M/M inventory increase at 8.77%, while used dry van trailers had the largest Y/Y inventory decrease at 24.4%.
  • Asking values decreased by 2.62% M/M and 2% Y/Y in July but continued an upward trend. The largest asking value decreases occurred in the used reefer trailer category, down 6.19% M/M, and the used drop deck trailer category, down 4.15% Y/Y.
  • Auction values decreased by 3.71% M/M and 2.1% Y/Y in July and are trending sideways. Compared to other categories, used reefer trailers posted the largest auction value decreases, down 12.59% M/M and 8.82% Y/Y.

U.S. Used Medium-Duty Trucks

  • Inventory levels in this market dropped 6.17% M/M in July but rose 9.37% Y/Y and are trending sideways. The used moving box truck category posted the largest M/M inventory decrease at 11.59%, while used reefer box truck inventory levels increased more than all other categories, up 80.59%.
  • Asking values increased by 2.56% M/M but were down 4.44% Y/Y and continued an 11-month-long downward trend in July. Used cab and chassis trucks led other categories in M/M asking value increases at 12.76%. Used reefer box trucks led other categories in Y/Y asking value decreases at 8.55%.
  • Auction values have also been trending down for 11 months in a row. Auction values in this market were up 4.51% M/M, led by used cab and chassis trucks with a 17.12% increase. Auction values were down 7.16% Y/Y, with used reefer box trucks taking the lead with a 15.26% drop.
