Equipment finance professionals monitoring asset values will note continued softening across key used equipment categories in October, according to Sandhills Global’s latest Truck & Trailer Market Reports.
U.S. Used Heavy-Duty Trucks
- Inventory levels of U.S. used sleeper and day cab trucks rose 5.05% M/M in October but were still 11.6% lower Y/Y and are trending sideways. Used sleeper trucks had the largest M/M inventory increase at 8.48%, while the used day cab truck category had the largest Y/Y decrease with a 14.21% change.
- Asking values were down 0.38% M/M, up 0.36% Y/Y, and are trending sideways. The used day cab truck category posted both the largest M/M asking value decrease at 1% and the largest Y/Y decrease at 6.7%.
- Auction values in this market were down 0.11% M/M, up 0.27% Y/Y, and are trending sideways. The used day cab truck category had the most significant changes here as well, with auction value decreases of 0.99% M/M and 7.55% Y/Y.
U.S. Used Semi-Trailers
- Inventory levels in this market decreased by 0.73% M/M and 12.48% Y/Y in October and are trending downward. Used drop-deck trailers led other categories in M/M inventory increases at 13.18%. The used dry van trailer category led in Y/Y inventory declines, down 21.42%.
- Asking values in this market were down 0.63% M/M and 1.03% Y/Y and are trending down. The used reefer trailer category posted the largest M/M asking value decrease at 2.63%, while the used drop-deck trailer category showed the largest Y/Y decrease at 3.1%.
- Auction values are also trending downward, with decreases of 3.06% M/M and 2.39% Y/Y in October. Used reefer trailer auction values declined the most M/M at 6.31%, while the used dry van trailer category led in Y/Y decreases with a 7.89% drop.
U.S. Used Medium-Duty Trucks
- Inventory levels of used medium-duty trucks such as box trucks, flatbed trucks, and cab and chassis trucks, are trending downward. Inventory levels decreased by 1.36% M/M and 1.02% Y/Y in October.
- Asking values decreased by 2.42% M/M and 6.81% Y/Y in October, continuing a 14-month-long downward trend.
- Auction values have also been trending downward. Auction values fell 2.32% M/M and 8.54% Y/Y in October.
