New orders for manufactured durable goods in September, down three of the last four months, decreased $2.2 billion (0.8%) to $284.8 billion, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This followed a 0.8% August decrease.
Excluding transportation, new orders increased 0.4%. Excluding defense, new orders decreased 1.1%. Transportation equipment, also down three of the last four months, drove the decrease, $3.1 billion (3.1%) to $95.4 billion.
