2023 Monitor Top Women in Equipment Finance: Robin Slaven, CLFP, Leasepath

Robin Slaven, CLFP, Implementation Consultant, Leasepath

As the implementation consultant for Leasepath, Robin Slaven is responsible for bringing some of the company’s most successful projects to life. She helps Leasepath customers leverage modern technology to shape their processes by driving customer servicing excellence and finding new ways to leverage modern solutions.

Slaven found the equipment finance industry in 1992 while studying theoretical mathematics and computer science at North Central College, where she created a database program for a broker that allowed mail-merge onto envelopes for marketing campaigns. Before most equipment financing companies knew how, Slaven was introducing computer automation and delivering competitive advantages.

Slaven has spent most of her career in equipment finance, working with a variety of industry companies such as a funding source and multiple software service providers. She has implemented numerous lease and loan origination solutions for captive vendors, brokers and funding sources of all shapes and sizes, giving her a deep breadth of experience to pull from when solving problems with modern tools.

A thought leader by nature, Slaven has excelled even when women – especially in leadership roles – were rare in the technology space. She feels most accomplished when developing innovative solutions that create clearer, more streamlined workflows that reduce the end cost of originations for her customers. She is often an early adopter of emerging technology, but only after she has thoughtfully vetted a given trend. As Slaven has advanced in her career, she has given back through mentorship using her innate ability to think differently about complex problems and develop clear, transformative solutions.

“Robin is tenacious when it comes to helping customers solve their business problems,” Michael Baez, vice president of Leasepath, says. “She brings creative solutions to the table and is an evangelist in consistently seeking out, understanding and sharing the latest technologies available.”

Slaven is a leader in her community as well. She represents Leasepath with a Dynamics User Group, a consortium specializing in Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the Power Platform, to bring new ideas to equipment finance. Through her local Parent-Teachers Association, she supports meaningful educational initiatives such as volunteering on field trips to Enterprise Village at the Stavros Institute, which promotes economic education of youth in Pinellas County, FL.

Slaven loves expanding her skills and bringing new solutions to the industry that will make capital more accessible to businesses that have great ideas to expand, innovate and make the world a better place. In the past year alone, Slaven has earned her Certified Leasing & Finance Professional designation, designed several foundational Leasepath enhancements, led integration projects and led several successful implementation projects both for domestic and international teams.

Slaven is a deeply strategic thinker with an innate talent for identifying solutions when faced with a challenge of any size. Her pragmatic approach to her work, her passion for financial technology innovation and her dedication to clients and teammates alike inspire those around her to listen to her and trust her as a reliable source for guidance. Slaven hopes her example will help other women discover their potential for becoming leaders in the financial technology field and advises women who are just starting careers in technology to never be afraid to express themselves.

“Be willing to voice your ideas, even if they are not accepted and even when no one else looks like you in the room. Be willing to listen and analyze other ideas along with your own to come up with the best innovations. Express your ideas and listen to others; great teams provide better solutions than a single hero.”
