Baker Hughes’ latest rotary rig count showed there were 1,021 active rigs operating in the U.S. as of April 27, 2018, up 151 or 17.5% compared to the same week last year.
The international rig count was 972, which was up 29 from last year, but down seven one week ago.
The Canadian rig count of 85 was down eight from a week earlier, with no change compared to one year-ago.
Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of U.S. and Canadian drilling activity.
