Hyster-Yale H1/17 Y/Y Shipments Up 9.4%, Backlog Up 15.4%



Hyster-Yale Materials Handling announced consolidated net income of $16.4 million and consolidated revenues of $685.5 million for Q2/17 compared with consolidated net income of $8.3 million and consolidated revenues of $645.6 million for Q2/16.

Consolidated operating profit was $18.3 million for Q2/17 compared with $11.4 million for Q2/16. Q2/17 net income includes a discrete tax benefit of $2.4 million compared with discrete tax expenses of $1.8 million in Q2/16.

For the six months ended June 30, 2017, the company reported consolidated net income of $34.5 million and revenues of $1.4 billion compared with consolidated net income of $18.3 million and revenues of $1.2 billion for the first six months of 2016. Operating profit was $41.7 million for the first half of 2017 compared with $21.1 million in the first half of 2016.

The following highlights were excerpted from the news release:

  • The Lift Truck business reported net income of $23.8 million and revenues of $647.7 million for Q2/17 compared with net income of $13.1 million and revenues of $609.6 million for Q2/16.  Lift truck operating profit was $28.6 million for Q2/17 compared with $19.0 million for Q2/16.
  • Consolidated worldwide new unit shipments increased to approximately 22,200 units in Q2/17 from approximately 21,100 units in Q2/16.
  • Q2/17 bookings were approximately 25,300 units, or approximately $575 million, compared with approximately 21,700 units, or approximately $500 million, in Q2/16.
  • Worldwide backlog was approximately 35,300 units, or approximately $820 million, at June 30, 2017 compared with approximately 30,500 units, or approximately $715 million, at June 30, 2016 and approximately 30,000 units, or approximately $710 million, at March 31, 2017.
  • Lift truck shipments increased to approximately 45,500 units in the first half of 2017 from approximately 41,600 units in the second half of 2016.
