Pottle Elected 74th ATA Chairman

The American Trucking Associations announced that Barry Pottle, CEO of Pottle’s Transportation, Bangor, ME, had been elected by the federation’s board of directors to serve as the organization’s 74th chairman.

“To be elected chairman of ATA is a tremendous honor for me,” Pottle said. “I am excited and invigorated by the challenge of leading ATA and would like to thank my fellow members for entrusting me with this responsibility.”

“Barry has been a strong and engaged voice for our industry on the issues that are of critical importance to our industry,” said ATA President and CEO Chris Spear. “I’m confident he will continue to be a tremendous representative for our industry, and I congratulate him on this honor.”

Pottle replaces Dave Manning, president of TCW, Nashville, TN, as chairman.

Pottle purchased Pottle’s Transportation from his father in 1988 and guided its growth from an 11-truck fleet to its current size of more than 180 trucks and 575 trailers.

In addition to his previous service as ATA first vice chairman, Pottle has served as chairman of Truck PAC, the Maine Motor Transport Association and the Truckload Carriers Association.

The board also elected Randy Guillot, president of Triple G Express, New Orleans, as ATA first vice chairman; Sherri Garner Brumbaugh, president and CEO of Garner Trucking, Findlay, OH, as ATA second vice chairman and Harold Summerford Jr., CEO of J&M Tank Lines, Birmingham, AL and Dan Van Alstine, president and COO of Ruan Transportation Management Systems as ATA vice chairmen. In addition, the board re-elected John Smith, chairman of Admiralty Holdings as secretary and Mike Ducker, former president and CEO of FedEx Freight, as treasurer.
