In its weekly release on rail traffic, the Association of American Railroads reported that for the first 31 weeks of 2016, U.S. railroads reported cumulative volume of 7,588,589 carloads, down 11.7% from the same point last year, and 7,978,993 intermodal units, down 2.8% from last year.
Total combined U.S. traffic for the first 31 weeks of 2016 was 15,567,582 carloads and intermodal units, a decrease of 7.4% compared to last year.
For the week ended August 6, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 531,595 carloads and intermodal units, down 5.5% compared with the same week last year.
