Transport Topics: October Class 8 Retail Sales Down 12.6%

Transport Topics reported, citing data from WardsAuto.com, U.S. retail sales of class 8 trucks declined on a year-over-year basis in October for the first time in 26 months as a softer economy sent mixed signals to the industry.

Transport Topics said last month’s sales total fell to 19,252 trucks, down 12.6% from 22,032 in October 2014.

Year-to-date sales remained ahead of last year’s pace with 208,793 heavy trucks sold, up 15.8% from 180,317 in the 2014 period, Transport Topics noted.
