In its weekly release, the Association of American Railroads revealed that for the first 44 weeks of 2016, U.S. railroads reported cumulative volume of 11.08 million carloads, down 9.8% year-over-year.
U.S. railroads also reported 11.43 million intermodal units during the first 44 weeks of the year, down 2.9% compared to 2015. Total combined U.S. rail traffic for the time period was 22.51 million carloads and intermodal units, a decreased of 6.4% compared to last year.
