ACT Research: Used Class 8 Truck Sales Climb Again in December

December used Class 8 truck same dealer sales volumes ended 1% above November, and up 11% year-over-year compared to December 2015.

The positive close to the year marked three consecutive months of year-over-year increases, according to the latest data from ACT Research.

“The uptick in sales was enough to push 2016 year-to-date volumes a fraction of a point, 0.3%, higher than 2015’s total,” said Steve Tam, ACT’s vice president. “Once the dust has settled, we believe 2016 used Class 8 truck sales will see a small gain over 2015, at around 270,000 units.”

Used Class 8 exports also climbed again. Export volumes were up 74% year-over-year compared to November 2015.

“This marks five months in a row of year-over-year improvements, and pushes year-to-date totals 10% higher than the comparable period in 2015,” Tam said. “With one month of 2016 exports yet to be reported, November year-to-date volumes have already surpassed 2015’s total.”
