Changes to Basel IV Could Negatively Impact Aircraft Leasing Industry

According to the Irish Times, proposed changes to Basel IV could pose significant issues for Ireland’s aircraft leasing industry.

Specifically, the Times said the new Basel IV could make borrowing money from banks to buy aircraft that would eventually be leased more costly, as the amount of money banks would need to provide to outweigh the risk of a default would increase.

The Times noted that major aircraft lessors such as GECAS, SMBC and Avolon, which are based in Ireland, could be affected by changes to Basel IV.
