Rig Counts Hit Lowest Level Since 2010



Oil rig counts in the U.S. dropped by 4% this week, with 524 counted as of December 11, according to Baker Hughes. There were 545 oil rigs counted as of December 4, making for a loss of 21 during the course of the week and driving the count to its lowest level since April 30, 2010, according to Business Insider.

Oil rig counts have fallen by more than 1,000 this year, with the number standing at 1,546 last year at this time.

Additionally, gas rig counts fell to 185, a drop of seven from the 192 reported the previous week. In total, there were 709 rigs accounted for this week, down from 737 on Dec. 4.

Business Insider also noted that the price of crude oil fell to as low as $35.92 a barrel, its lowest level in seven years.
