Trinity Adds to Record Backlog with GATX Railcar Order

Trinity Industries announced that its subsidiary, Trinity Rail Group, entered into a supply agreement with GATX to deliver 8,950 railcars over a four-year period, beginning March 2016.

Trinity said this agreement takes effect upon the scheduled expiration of the current rail supply agreement with GATX, which ends in mid-2016. GATX may order both tank and freight cars, though the majority of the order will be for tank cars. This new order was not included in the company’s recently announced third quarter 2014 orders of 14,120 railcars.

“We are pleased to enter into a supply agreement with GATX,” said D. Stephen Menzies, Trinity Industries senior vice president and Trinity
Rail Group president. “We value our long-term relationship with GATX, and appreciate the confidence they continue to place in Trinity Rail as a premier North American railcar manufacturer. This multi-year supply agreement adds to the record $6.1 billion backlog we had in place at the end of the third quarter. There is a lot of positive momentum occurring within Trinity Rail, as we continue to benefit from strong market fundamentals.”
